Letters from ABC

So finally it happened! I went to Nepal and I did the ABC trek (For those of you who don't know: ABC is Annapurna Base Camp). Although more than two weeks have passed since I am back, it took me a while to land. Even now, whenever I close my eyes, I can still see snowy peaks, steep green slopes, porters, donkeys, Buddhist prayer flags and lots of stone stairs.

Ah, what amazing views, what friendly people! But the most unexpected and surprising things I've discovered was the Nepali food. After hearing for years about Dal Bhat I found that there is much more to Nepalese cuisine than rice and lentils. The Indian and Tibetan influences along with many local traditions bring up a wonderful mixture of colors, smells and tastes.

So what did we have there? Lots of Momos (Tibetan dumplings filled with meat or vegetables) in different forms accompanied by spicy hot sauces, Nepalese spicy curries of vegetables or chicken, Tibetan fried noodles and noodle soups, the wonderful garlic soup - the best cure for altitude sickness, and of course Dal Bhat, the ultimate meal of porters, consumed by the locals at least once a day. Needless to say Nepalese cuisine will be the next to come. Currently I'm collecting and polishing the recipes, so be prepared to get some tastes of Himalayas.
